In 2008, two University of Georgia students and fraternity brothers, Daniel Womack and Carter King, came together and created the indie rock band, Futurebirds.

A vacation in Arizona was all Lila and Raphael Jimenez needed to become addicted to Sonoran-style hot dogs. After tasting this hot dog on their trip, the couple could not find anything identical in Athens, so they decided to introduce Athens to Mexican hot dogs.
On Jan. 3, Baxter Street restaurant and bar home.made launched its first “Bar Sober” event, which is catered to serving alcohol-free cocktails. This weekly pop-up bar hosted every Wednesday at 6 p.m. creates an inclusive atmosphere for Athenians who do not want to drink alcohol yet desire a social outing.
This Masters Sunday, El Barrio’s front yard turned into an outdoor bash with a spotlight on the debut of the Salty Goat Margarita Mix, a rebranded New Creation Soda Works staple.
On Friday, Oct. 13, I attended one of Athens Cooks cooking classes: “Sake to Me Sushi!” In this two-hour cooking class, participants were guided through the necessary skills to make the perfect sushi roll, such as the steps of cutting and rolling ingredients and making the exact cuts to craft the rolls.
A few miles from downtown Athens, Taqueria Juaritos, an authentic Mexican restaurant, is nestled within the Food Mart gas station located on 3875 Jefferson Rd.
Emmy Squared Pizza, a restaurant chain known for its Detroit-style pizzas, expanded its menu to include brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
